Jo Norton, is a most beautiful soul.
She has a calming effect yet an air of unwavering excitement + a libraries worth of knowledge.
To me, days in the Norton + Norton studio are some of my favourites.
I feel that creating pottery pieces is truly a self love practice. Meditative, natural + you leave wanting to create more, more + more. In this day + age of technology being glued to our bodies, to sit without your phone + just focus on your hands playing with one of natures most incredible resources grounds you beyond belief.
So, when Jo asked me to be a part of her hand built vases workshop at her Currumbin Studio, Norton + Norton I literally jumped at the opportunity!
It was a safe space where I would get up in front of her workshop attendees + demonstrate how to style a vase with locally sourced flora.
After a few of these workshops, Jo could see how much I was enjoying creating the vases myself. One thing led to a creative other + voila, a collaboration was born.
#ThePotterAndTheFlorist as affectionally monikered by us both is a fusion of Jo's knowledge + my vision on the vase aesthetically.
The base of each vase is thrown by Jo on the wheel. A symbol of her teachings to me. This also created consistency in the vases as only she can do. Her perfection is off the radar when it comes to wheel based works!
The rest of each vase is hand built by me, completely different to the next + you can see the makers mark in each one.
Jo then dries, fires + glazes the handmade beauties ready for my Nesst customers to enjoy.
What we love about this collaboration is that each vessel is unique + each has an energy behind it. Whilst making them, we swapped stories or sat in silence + on the odd occasion cried (with tears of joy or sadness). We have built a friendship whilst building these vases.
A thoughtful collaboration. Supporting local in the most authentic way possible.
